Story Idea #039 – Discount Phone Plans for Gig Drivers: How Much Mobile Service Do You Actually Need?

A gig driver needs reliable mobile data, but that does not automatically mean needing the most expensive unlimited plan on the shelf.

We want to measure what delivery work actually consumes: app data, navigation, photos, messaging, support calls, occasional uploads and whatever personal use is mixed into the same phone. Then we can compare that real requirement with lower-cost Canadian plans and ask where the savings stop being worth the compromises.

Coverage matters as much as data allowance. A cheap plan that repeatedly loses service in delivery areas can cost more in missed offers and failed navigation than it saves on the bill. Hotspot access, roaming, throttling, voicemail and device financing can also change the comparison.

The finished article will be built around driver profiles rather than one universal recommendation: light part-time use, regular local delivery and heavy full-time driving. We want readers to be able to look at their own usage and know which features they are actually paying for.
