Story Idea #106 – The Birth of the Building SOAPSzone Series: Turning Rapid AI-Assisted Development Into a Real-Time Case Study
The idea for the Building SOAPSzone series appeared only after there was already enough building underway to make the process interesting.
A website was becoming a newsroom. A newsroom was becoming an app project. Story ideas were multiplying, research workflows were changing, files were being reorganized and AI was allowing work that would once have been spread across many people and many months to happen in parallel.
At some point the process itself became a story.
Instead of writing a polished retrospective later—when every false start has been forgotten and every decision looks more deliberate than it really was—we want to document the development while it is happening.
That means preserving the awkward parts. Why did one workflow fail? Why did a naming convention have to change? What happens when 100 story ideas suddenly need permanent IDs, source documents, photographs and public-facing previews? Which AI-assisted shortcuts save enormous time, and which create extra cleanup because the first solution was too eager or too generic?
The series will also record decisions about editorial standards, privacy, hosting, social media, the forum, the Knowledge Base, software development and the role of AI itself.
The value is not that SOAPSzone is necessarily a model anyone should copy. The value is that readers can see a real small project making decisions under real constraints, then judge which decisions worked.
Most case studies are written after history has become tidy.
This one gets to keep the sawdust on the floor.
