The bad experience did not get the last word.

    THU

    Something happened today.

There were experiences in my recent life that I would never choose to repeat. Mistakes. Embarrassment. Systems that treated people badly. Moments when I felt reduced to a rule or a score or a decision made by somebody who did not know me.

The temptation after something painful is to ask whether it was worth it because of what I learned. I no longer like that question. It sounds too much like retroactive permission. Something poorly handled does not become good because I extracted something useful from it.

A person who treated me without humanity does not become justified because the experience taught me to treat somebody else more humanely. The harm and the learning are separate truths. There is the paradox again. This should not have happened this way. And I learned something valuable from it.

Both. That separation mattered enormously. It meant gratitude did not require denial. I could be grateful for what I learned without becoming grateful for the harm. I could allow a bad situation to become part of something beautiful without rewriting it as necessary.

That is a fierce form of reality. Do not lie about the wound. Do not surrender the lesson either.
