I learned that options can be allies.

Something happened today.
I had originally thought about allies as people. That is still the most natural meaning. A friend. A partner. Someone who sees what you are trying to do and stands beside you. But the idea expanded. An ally can also be an option.
A new route. A second income source. A different tool. A person you had not thought to ask. A policy you did not know existed. A small amount of saved money. A document that proves something later. A little extra time. Options reduce helplessness.
They do not guarantee success. They change the geometry of the situation. When there is only one path, every obstacle on it feels existential. When there are three paths, the same obstacle becomes information. That connected back to curiosity. Curiosity gives you totally new options. Not because every question produces a solution.
Because every question has a chance to reveal another door. Sometimes the most compassionate thing I can do for my future self is create options before I need them. That is what margin does. That is what allies do. That is what documentation can do. That is what learning can do. The option may never be used. Its existence still changes how trapped I feel.
