    SUN

    Something happened today.

I realized the best joke in the D2 cartoon might be the reader agreeing with D2.

Bill says the cartoons are funny.

    D2 says they are not.

    Bill insists.

Meanwhile there is a Barf/byte pun sitting on the desk like evidence entered by the prosecution.

That structure delighted me because it does not require the author to be the smartest person in the room.

In fact, the joke improves when Bill loses the argument.

I think there is something healthy in making room to be the fool inside your own work.

If everything I create has to make me look perceptive, wise or clever, the work becomes brittle.

    Let D2 be right.

    Let the pun be awful.

    Let the reader groan.

    The groan is participation.

    There is that invitation again.

The reader is not being told, Here is the funny thing.

They are being allowed to discover, Oh my God, D2 is right. That is terrible.

    Truth laugh, tiny edition.
