    MON

    Something happened today.

I looked back at a choice that had seemed almost arbitrary when I made it and realized it had opened a whole road.

There are times when I choose something because it simply seems to make sense, even though I cannot yet produce the spreadsheet explaining why.

That makes the rational part of me nervous.

    Why this hosting company?

    Why this domain?

    Why this project?

Why call it SOAPSzone, for God’s sake?

Then later, pieces begin attaching themselves to the choice.

I do not want to romanticize instinct. Gut feelings can be spectacularly wrong. A hunch is not evidence. I have said that enough times now that I should probably print it on a coffee mug.

But a hunch can be a clue.

    That distinction matters.

I do not have to obey the instinct.

    I can investigate it.

Sometimes the conscious explanation arrives after the choice because the brain had noticed a pattern before it had words for the pattern.

    Sometimes I simply got lucky.

Either way, the useful response is not, My instinct is magical.

It is, Huh. Why did that feel right?

    Look.

    There may be something there.

    Or there may not.

Curiosity gets to open the envelope without pretending it already knows what is inside.
