Story Idea #034 – Uber Eats in Canada: Its History, Current Reach, Coverage Gaps and Driver Workforce

Uber Eats entered Canada as part of a much larger transportation company, which gives its delivery business a different history from a platform built primarily around food delivery.

We want to trace that Canadian growth, identify where Uber Eats currently operates, and look closely at what “coverage” means outside major cities. A market can technically exist while offering drivers very little volume, so geographic availability and economic usefulness need to be treated separately.

We will also examine what can be known about the Canadian delivery workforce. Uber’s public reporting often combines services, markets or worker categories, making a simple driver count difficult. Rather than manufacture precision, we will explain the available measures and their limits.

Together with the DoorDash Canada companion story, this article should give readers a factual baseline for understanding the two platforms before we dig into specific policies, incentives, app design and driver problems.
