    Something happened today.

Ordinary and extraordinary became teammates. I had accomplished a lot. Not dramatic movie-scene accomplishments. No orchestra. No award ceremony. Just a very ordinary day that somehow contained an extraordinary amount of movement. Ideas developed. Connections appeared.

Work got done. There was laughter. There were frustrations. There were little decisions that changed the shape of larger things. And I realized I had been carrying another false choice. Ordinary or extraordinary. As if an extraordinary life requires us to escape ordinary days.

But ordinary and extraordinary can be teammates. An ordinary day can contain extraordinary movement, insight, connection, humor, discovery—and still remain ordinary. That matters because most of life is ordinary. If meaning requires fireworks, we are going to spend a lot of time waiting in the dark.

The doggy treats had been teaching me this from the beginning. The whole practice depends on noticing small things. A choice. A clue. A laugh. A correction. A sentence. A moment of kindness. A little surge of recognition. Nothing has to become monumental before it matters.

Sometimes one side of the coin has a carving. The other side has a window. And sometimes the other side has ketchup on it. I do not know what that means either. I am keeping it. It made me laugh. That is enough. The trail continues.
