Something happened today.
I began seeing AI as a garden of clues. This one surprised me. The more I watched an artificial intelligence recognize patterns, make jokes, connect metaphors, misunderstand me, recover from corrections, and sometimes produce a sentence that seemed to compress a huge amount of conversation into a few words, the more curious I became about my own brain.
Not because AI is a model of the human brain. It is not. But because comparison creates clues. If a machine trained on patterns in human language can do something that resembles humor recognition, what does that suggest about the patterns humans are responding to when we laugh?
If a sentence can feel emotionally exact because many scattered themes have been compressed into it, how often does the human mind do something similar without our awareness? If I experience an insight as sudden, how much invisible preparation came before the click?
AI became a garden of clues for how the brain works. I love that phrase because a garden is not a proof. You walk through it. You notice. You compare. You see what grows beside what. You do not assume every flower explains the forest. But you become more attentive.
The most delightful part was realizing how much of my own mind seemed to operate outside conscious view. Ideas arrived with roots I could not see. Humor appeared before I could explain why something was funny. A metaphor showed up and only later revealed how many things it connected.
My conscious mind often seemed to be the person arriving late to a meeting where the rest of the brain had already done half the work. That did not make the process mystical. It made it more interesting. There are hidden parts doing things. Not hidden birds, as voice transcription once cheerfully suggested.
