Story Idea #061 – Some DoorDash Drivers Keep Food Warm in Peg-Leg Compartments
This one is firmly in the SOAPSzone absurdity department.
The premise is simple: somewhere in the sprawling universe of delivery-driver ingenuity, there are supposedly drivers who have discovered that an artificial leg provides exactly the kind of insulated, portable food-storage compartment the gig economy forgot to invent.
We are not presenting that as fact. This is a fictional comedy piece built around the way gig drivers constantly improvise solutions for problems the apps, restaurants and equipment makers leave behind. Real drivers use insulated bags, pizza bags, cup carriers, blankets, heated bags and whatever else helps a meal survive the trip. The satire takes that practical instinct and pushes it several exits past reasonable.
The eventual piece will be written as if this were a perfectly ordinary equipment trend: comparative storage capacity, temperature retention, ease of cleaning, possible drink-holder attachments and the inevitable question of whether a premium model should include separate hot and cold compartments.
We may even have to investigate the great unresolved technical question: if a driver is carrying soup, how much sloshing is too much sloshing?
The fun will come from treating every ridiculous detail with the seriousness of a product review or trade publication. We will leave the best specifications, testimonials and alleged manufacturer responses for the finished satire.
If you are a gig driver with a genuinely strange improvised way of keeping food hot, drinks upright or delivery gear organized, tell us about it. Reality has a habit of getting uncomfortably close to our jokes.
