Story Idea #036 – Want a Written Record When Dealing With Your Bank?

A telephone call can solve a banking problem, but it leaves the customer depending on notes and memory if the issue returns. Secure messaging offers something different: a dated written exchange inside an authenticated banking environment.

We want to compare how Canadian financial institutions let customers ask account questions in writing. Some provide a true message centre, some route customers through chat, some offer limited forms, and others make written contact surprisingly difficult to find.

The story will look at what kinds of issues can be handled through these channels, how long responses take, whether attachments are allowed, and how easy it is to retrieve the conversation later. We also want to distinguish secure account messaging from ordinary email and automated chatbots.

For disputes involving fees, instructions or promises, the written record can be as valuable as the answer itself. If your bank or credit union has an especially good—or absurdly hidden—secure-message system, we want to see how it works.
