Mission & Purpose

What SOAPSzone Is

SOAPSzone is an independent journalism and advocacy platform focused primarily on the experiences of gig workers and online consumers.

Our Mission

Our mission is to investigate the systems, policies, technologies, and everyday practices that affect people who depend on apps, online services, retailers, delivery platforms, and other digital systems. We look for problems that are easy to dismiss when seen one at a time, but which may reveal larger patterns when experiences are collected, compared, documented, and reported.

Journalism That Can Help

We believe journalism can do more than describe a problem. It can help people understand what is happening, give affected people a voice, make useful information easier to find, ask organizations difficult but fair questions, and encourage better systems when existing ones fail.

Advocacy and Accuracy

SOAPSzone is both journalistic and openly advocacy-minded. We advocate for fairness, transparency, accountability, practical solutions, and systems that work better for the people who use and depend on them. Advocacy does not change our obligation to get the facts right.

Where This Can Lead

SOAPSzone begins with gig work and online consumer issues, but the underlying mission is broader: find places where real people are being poorly served by systems, understand what is happening, document it carefully, make it visible, and help push toward something better.

Transparency

Whenever practical, we publish or link to the documents, correspondence, source material, and other evidence behind our reporting so readers can examine the basis for our conclusions themselves.

Community Participation

Drivers, consumers, workers, businesses, experts, and readers can contribute experiences, tips, documents, comments, photographs, video clips, and ideas. Individual experiences can matter on their own; together, they can reveal patterns.

Humour Belongs Here Too

Difficult or frustrating subjects do not always have to be presented grimly. We can take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
