Source and Supporting-Documents Policy
Last revised — August 21, 2026
Purpose
SOAPSzone wants readers to be able to look behind the reporting. Whenever reasonably possible, we publish or link to the documents, correspondence, screenshots, policies, public records, and other material that materially supports a story.
Named Sources
Named sources are preferred when practical and safe because readers can better evaluate who is speaking and why they may know what they know.
Anonymous Sources
Anonymous or confidential sources may be used when a legitimate risk or strong public-interest reason justifies protecting identity. SOAPSzone should normally know who the source is and understand the basis of the source’s knowledge.
Corroboration
Important claims should be supported through documents, screenshots, independent sources, public records, direct observation, or other evidence whenever practical.
Reader Audit
Readers should be able to look behind statements such as “the evidence shows” and inspect the same foundation SOAPSzone used whenever that can be done safely and lawfully.
Return to Principles & Practices
Protecting Sources
Publication of source material should not expose confidential identities, account numbers, home addresses, private contact details, authentication information, or other unnecessary personal information.
Context Matters
A screenshot or excerpt should not be cropped so aggressively that the missing context changes its meaning.
Originals
SOAPSzone should preserve original source material internally whenever practical, even when the published version is redacted, cropped, converted, or annotated.
Working Rule
Show the work. Protect what genuinely needs protecting.
