Story Idea #025 – Gig-Worker Contracts in Plain English: What DoorDash and Uber Agreements Let the Platforms Do—and What They Don’t

Few drivers read every line of the agreement they accept before going online, yet those contracts can define deactivation, dispute resolution, data use, account rules, responsibility for costs and many other parts of the working relationship.

We want to take the current Canadian DoorDash and Uber agreements apart in plain English. The goal is not to cherry-pick alarming clauses. We will identify what each provision actually says, what discretion it gives the platform, what obligations it places on the driver, and where ordinary law may still limit what a contract can accomplish.

Particular attention will go to public statements, confidentiality, investigations, off-platform conduct, privacy, appeals and changes to the terms themselves. We also want to distinguish a contractual right from a practical ability: a clause may permit something without making every use of that power lawful or reasonable in every circumstance.

This will be a living reference story. When the agreements change, the useful version is the one that tells drivers exactly what changed and why it matters.
