App 13 – Making Recording Failures Recoverable Instead of Mysterious

Real-world mobile apps do not fail neatly. Phones sleep, processes die, storage fills, networks vanish and uploads get interrupted.

Prompt thirteen asked the app to remember enough state to recover from that mess. On startup it would reconcile the database with the files actually present, distinguish active, completed, interrupted and failed recordings, and preserve any playable file left behind by an abnormal shutdown.

Cloud uploads received the same treatment. Pending work could retry with bounded backoff, failed uploads could be retried manually, and the local file remained untouched until cloud success was confirmed. Incomplete media was not to be magically declared good; if recovery could not be trusted, the app would mark it incomplete instead.

The philosophy was simple: failure should become visible information, not silent loss. That is especially important in an app whose recordings may exist precisely because something went wrong somewhere else.
